Services need people
This is perhaps a bit obvious:
the services you build and run need people to run, maintain, extend, adapt, and fix them
People are ultimately a cost to running an organisation.
People also have a limited amount of time and cognitive space as resources to do the running, maintaining, extending, etc…
Therefore, important considertaions of proposing services are:
- does the team exist?
- do they have the skill set?
- do they have the capacity to build, run, maintain, etc..
- can a suitable team be brought into existence?
- is there budget?
- does this service need to exist?
- does it provide strategic capabilities and value?
- does an equivalent service exist which can be bought? <- this opens a whole host of other questions…
